300-Hour Professional Yogaworks Teacher Training level two

Advanced Study for Graduates of a 200-Hour Training Program

May 15 - November 21, 2010

This six-month program offered in partnership with Yogaworks provides students with an opportunity to build upon the material introduced in a 200-Hour Teacher Training, integrate what you’ve learned through practical application in the classroom, and support the development of their individual voice and style as a yoga teacher.

About Yogaworks Professional Program

Yogaworks offers a cohesive, multi-specialist approach to teacher training that blends the best of the Yoga tradition from the East and West. Our faculty is comprised of highly-trained, experienced, inspiring professionals with a profound understanding of Yoga’s transformative power.

At the cornerstone of Yogaworks' teaching philosophy is the idea that the concepts of Yoga must be first understood through the body and the dynamic, conscious practice of asana. the YogaWorks method is a blending of the three strands of the Krishnamacharya lineage-Ashtanga, Iyengar and the teachings of Desikachar coupled with the unique approach to sequencing that is specifically designed to meet the needs of the average yoga student. from Ashtanga the method incorporates heat and flow, from Iyengar precise detailed instructions and from the teachings of Desikachar, posture modifications-the idea that the practice should fit the practitioner. Our programs emphasize a student’s personal practice as the source for their creative teaching, and include a comprehensive study of the techniques and mechanics of fundamental yoga postures, as well as the tools necessary to teach and inspire others. To deepen their education students will also study functional anatomy and physiology, explore Yoga’s philosophical underpinnings, practice meditation and pranayama, and investigate the ancient science of Ayurveda.

Apprenticeship
Through the apprenticeship program, students will benefit from working more closely with a senior teacher. In this component of the course, participants continue to cultivate their teaching skills by applying them practically, in the class room. Additionally, trainees build upon what they learned in their initial training, solidifying and integrating the information through a consistent, one-on-one relationship and on-going dialogue with their mentor. As assistants in their mentors classes-trainees hone their ability to see bodies and give hands on adjustments. In addition, they have the opportunity to observe a senior teacher instructing, sequencing, adjusting and inspiring their students, and through this process to imprint these crucial elements of superlative teaching. Twice monthly mentor meetings will reinforce this learning process and serve as a forum to address questions and issues related to teaching yoga. Time and location vary by mentor.
Apprenticeship requirements:

  • Assisting mentor in class once a week
  • Taking mentor’s class once a week
  • Taking a class with another approved Senior Teacher once a week
  • Two meetings per month with mentor teacher

note: When selecting a mentor, please make first and second choice. Your mentor requests will be reviewed by all the mentors in the program, and you will be matched based on a combination of factors, including your yoga background, teaching history and career goals.
