Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to call ahead or sign up before taking a class?
No, it is not necessary to pre-register for any of our classes. Just come about 15min before a class of your choice to allow for time to fill out a registration card and get situated.

What should I wear and what do I need to bring?
Please dress in comfortable exercise clothes (barefoot in the Yoga room) and bring a small hand towel, water and a Yoga mat, if you own one.  Please avoid wearing lotion on hands and feet (which could cause you to slip) and strong perfume. We have public mats available at no fee, but in general we encourage students to purchase their own mats for hygienic reasons.

Do you offer any specials for new students?
We offer the popular "1 Week Unlimited Intro to Yoga" Special for new students for only $30 which allows you to take as many classes as you can in one week. Please note this is available for San Diego residents only.

Is the studio always open?
No, doors open 20-30 minutes before scheduled classes

What changing facilities do you have?
Changing and restrooms are available for men and women. We have cubbies outside the Yoga room where you can leave your personal belongings. You are welcome to take your valuables (phone, wallet, keys, etc.) inside the Yoga room, but please remember to turn off your mobile or pager.

What are the main styles of Yoga being offered at Prana?
A large number of classes are taught in the Vinyasa Flow style, which in most simple terms can be described as flow or power Yoga where you connect your movements with the breath. Each instructor has their own style and sequencing of Yoga poses (called asanas) and we encourage students to try out a variety of different teachers.

For students who are interested in a gentler, more slower-paced style of Yoga, we offer our Hatha classes. These classes focus on gentle stretching and strengthening and integrate more relaxation and meditation.

I am interested in the spiritual/meditative aspects of Yoga. Do you offer any classes or workshops?
Yes, we recommend the Kundalini classes on Tuesdays & Thursdays at 12noon and Saturdays at 7am. The Yin Yoga class on Wednesdays at 7:15pm is also a beautiful, meditative experience. Please check out our EVENTS page, we often offer workshops on The Yoga Sutras, Meditation, Ayurveda, etc.

I'm an advanced student, new to Prana. What classes do you recommend?  Advanced Vinyasa classes including arm balances and inversions are offered on these times: Tuesdays 6:15pm with Roman, Thursdays 4:30pm with Gerhard, Fridays 12noon with Liza, Saturdays 10:30am with Ingrid. Level 1-2 students are discouraged from attending these advanced classes,

Can I leave class early if necessary?
Yes. However, each class ends with a period of final relaxation (savasana) which typically lasts 5-10 minutes. Before leaving, please lie down for a brief savasana on your own (this is an integral part of every yoga session) and then quietly gather your things and depart before group relaxation begins.

I am pregnant, when can I start with prenatal Yoga?
As with any exercise during pregnancy, you should always get the green light from your OB-GYN before starting Yoga. We recommend that you start with Prenatal Yoga after your first trimester.

Where do I park?
Streetside parking is usually not a problem on surrounding streets (Herschel or Silverado). Please allow some extra time for mid-day classes (10am-12noon).

Please always feel free to contact us with questions or concerns. We look forward to seeing you in class!
